Television is one of the most popular devices that are used for entertainment all over the world. It has become quite common nowadays and almost every household has one television set at their place. 

With the invention of television, the craze allured many people to spend all their time watching TV. People started considering it detrimental as it attracted the kids the most. In other words, kids spent most of their time watching television and not studying. However, as times passed, the channels of television changed. More and more channels were broadcasted with different specialties. Thus, it gave us knowledge too along with entertainment. 

The impact of television on social values are numerous and definitely vary in positive and negative ways. Since television was first introduced it has been a very large part of our society. Television started as a form of entertainment that would be watched by the family for an hour a night as a relaxing way of getting away from the stresses of real life. Television has now turned into one of the biggest industries in the world, and has more influence than anyone could have imagined. Many people view television as a very positive form of entertainment, as it is without a doubt the most popular kind in the world. 

Television can expose children to situations that they should definitely not view at young ages. Everywhere you look on television there is a sex scene or a love scene. Many parents are very anxious that their children should not be viewing this material, and at this point there are not many good ways to keep them from watching it. Television now uses a rating system for all of its shows, but that is ignored by a good percent of the population. Television also takes all people away from reading and other activities that could be done in place of the 5 hours that is spent in front of the television every afternoon and night. The majority of household women can be seen as lazy or indolent because they pass most of their time watching serials. It is seen in the present time parents are callous to their children as they are busy in Indian TV serials. Conjugal relationships have been tremendously hampered due to some particular programs telecast by some television channel as husbands or wives cannot act according to the TV programs.

Today, television is very much popular for some particular programs. In our Bangladesh, television is being watched for news and some serials telecast from foreign channels. We are Bangladeshi and our culture is totally different from others. So importing some foreign channels will destabilize our values as those programs are not suitable for our society. The way of acting, romanticism, dialogues etc that are shown on that channels, sometimes go against our values. For this reason, we are losing our values and morals as we are trying to imitate those cultures. Thus, television impacts immensely on the social values of young generation.

ইন্টারনেট পৃথিবী বিস্তৃত একটি বৃহত্তম কম্পিউটার নেটওয়ার্ক। এটি অসংখ্য ছোট বা বড় নেটওয়ার্কের সংযোগে তৈরি একটি আন্তর্জাতিক নেটওয়ার্ক। 

ইন্টারনেট কথাটি ইন্টারন্যাশনাল নেটওয়ার্ক (International Network) এর সংক্ষিপ্ত রূপ। আন্তর্জাতিক যোগাযোগের জনপ্রিয় মাধ্যম হিসেবে ইন্টারনেটের উদ্ভব। কম্পিউটার নেটওয়ার্কের একটি আন্তর্জাতিক ব্যবস্থা হিসেবে গড়ে উঠেছে ও প্রক্রিয়া। সারা বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন দেশে ব্যবহৃত কম্পিউটারকে একটি বিশেষ পদ্ধতিতে যুক্ত করে যে যোগাযোগ ব্যবস্থা গড়ে উঠেছে তাই হলো ইন্টারনেট। ইন্টারনেটের সাথে অন্যান্য কম্পিউটার সংযুক্ত রয়েছে এ পদ্ধতিতে। এ প্রযুক্তির মাধ্যমে বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন কম্পিউটার থেকে যে কোনো কম্পিউটারে ছবিসহ যাবতীয় তথ্য সংগ্রহ ও প্রেরণ করা যায়। ইন্টারনেট চালানোর জন্য সাধারণত তিনটি জিনিস প্রয়োজন, এগুলো হলোঃ কম্পিউটার, মডেম এবং ইন্টারনেট সার্ভিস প্রোভাইডার। প্রথমেই ইন্টারনেটের যাত্রা নিয়ে কিছু বলা যাক। আরপানেট (ARPANET) দিয়ে ইন্টারনেটের প্রাথমিক কার্যক্রম শুরু হয়। ১৯৬৯ সালে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের প্রতিরক্ষা বিভাগ একটি গবেষণা প্রকল্পের আওতায় দেশের চারটি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়কে পরীক্ষামূলক কম্পিউটার নেটওয়ার্কের মাধ্যমে সংযুক্ত করে। এ নেটওয়ার্কের নাম আরপানেট। প্রাথমিক অবস্থায় গবেষণা প্রতিষ্ঠান ও বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের জন্য এ নেটওয়ার্কের ব্যবহার উন্মুক্ত ছিল। কিন্তু এ অবস্থা বেশি দিন স্থায়ী হয়নি। বর্তমানে তা সকলের জন্য উন্মুক্ত। ১৯৮২ সালে বিভিন্ন নেটওয়ার্কের মধ্যে সংযোগের উপযোগী টিসিপি/আইপি (TCP/IP: Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol) প্রোটোকল উদ্ভাবনের সাথে ইন্টারনেট শব্দটি চালু হয়। ১৯৮৩ সালের আরপানোর টিসিপি/আইপ প্রোটোকল ব্যবহারকারীর সংখ্যা দ্রুত বেড়ে যায়। বর্তমানেও এটিই ইন্টারনেট প্রটোকল নামে পরিচিত। বাংলাদেশে ইন্টারনেট চালু হয় ১৯৯৩ সালের ডিসেম্বর মাসে। তখন এর ব্যবহার ছিল সীমিত এবং কেবল ই-মেইল তার প্রয়োগ ছিল। ১৯৯৬ সালের ১৫ জুন থেকে অনলাইন সংযোগ দেয়া শুরু হলে বাংলাদেশ তথ্যপ্রযুক্তির বিশাল জগতে প্রবেশ। করে। ২০০০ সালের শুরুতে এর ৬০ হাজার সংযোগ দেয়া হয়েছিল। বর্তমানে তা ক্রমাগত বাড়ছে। ১৯৯৬ সাল থেকে বাংলাদেশে ফাইবার অপটিক ক্যাবল নেটওয়ার্কের মাধ্যমে দেশের অভ্যন্তরীণ বড় শহরগুলোকে সংযুক্ত করার পদক্ষেপ নেয়া হয়। ঢাকার মগবাজার ও গুলশানের টেলিফোন এক্সচেঞ্জের মধ্যে প্রথম ফাইবার অপটিক সংযোগ স্থাপন করা হয়। বর্তমানে শহরগুলোতে আন্তঃএক্সচেঞ্জগুলোর মধ্যে ফাইবার অপটিক সংযোগ আছে। 

বিশ্ব সেতু বন্ধনে আজ ইন্টারনেট এক অভূতপূর্ব ভূমিকা পালন করছে। ইন্টারনেটের মাধ্যমে বিশ্বের যেকোনো স্থানে সংঘটিত ঘটনা মুহূর্তের মধ্যেই পৃথিবীর এক প্রান্ত থেকে অন্য প্রান্তে ছড়িয়ে দেয়া সম্ভব হচ্ছে। পৃথিবীর যে কোন দেশে যদি এই ইন্টারনেটের প্রবেশাধিকার থাকে, তাহলে পৃথিবীর কোথায় কি হচ্ছে তা সরাসরি দেখা যায়। ইন্টারনেটের মাধ্যমে আজ বাংলাদেশে বসেও যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে বসবাসরত ডাক্তারের পরামর্শ নেয়া যাচ্ছে। এর ফলে সময় ও অর্থ দুই-ই সাশ্রয় হচ্ছে। ইংল্যান্ডে অনুষ্ঠিত ক্রিকেট বিশ্বকাপ ২০১৯ সরাসরি সম্প্রচারিত হচ্ছে যা আমরা ঘরে বসেই ইন্টারনেট ও টেলিভিশনের মাধ্যমে দেখতে পাচ্ছি। পৃথিবীর কোনো স্থানে যদি দুর্ঘটনা সংঘঠিত হয় তবে মুহূর্তের মধ্যেই ইন্টারনেটের মাধ্যমে তা বিশ্বব্যাপী ছড়িয়ে পড়ে। এতে ঘটনা সম্পর্কে সকলেই অবহিত হচ্ছে এবং সতর্কতা অবলম্বন করছে। ইন্টারনেটের এই বহুল ব্যবহারের কারণে নিউজিল্যান্ডে সংঘটিত মুসলিম হত্যাকান্ড সম্পর্কে সবাই সহমর্মিতা প্রকাশ করছে। সম্প্রতি ঠিক একই কারণে শ্রীলংকায় সংঘটিত হত্যাকান্ডেরও ঘৃণা প্রকাশ করছে। 

ইন্টারনেট ব্যবহার করার কারণে আজ গোটা বিশ্ব এসেছে হাতের মুঠোয়। বিশেষ করে আন্তর্জাতিক ব্যবসা-বাণিজ্যের ক্ষেত্রে ইন্টারনেট অগ্রগণ্য ভূমিকা পালন করছে। আমদানি-রপ্তানির ক্ষেত্রে ইন্টারনেট কমিয়ে দিয়েছে সময় ও অর্থ। এখন শুধু ইন্টারনেট ব্যবহার করে আমদানি ও রপ্তানি কার্য সমাধান করা সম্ভব হচ্ছে। শিক্ষা ও যোগযোগ ব্যবস্থায় ইন্টারনেট এনে দিয়েছে অভূতপূর্ব পরিবর্তন। এখন বাংলাদেশে বসেই যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বিভিন্ন লাইব্রেরির বই পড়া সম্ভব হচ্ছে। এর ফলে জ্ঞান বিজ্ঞানে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে দেশ। বিদেশ ভ্রমণের ক্ষেত্রে কোন দেশ সম্পর্কে ভালো করে জানার জন্য ইন্টারনেটের ব্যবহার করা হচ্ছে। আপনি যদি আফ্রিকার দেশে ভ্রমণ করতে চান তবে সেই দেশ সম্পর্কে জানাটা আপনার জন্য আবশ্যক। এই কাজটি আপনি ইন্টারনেট ব্যবহার করে করতে পারেন। সেই দেশের অর্থনীতি, রাজনীতি ও ভৌগোলিক পরিবেশ সম্পর্কে জানতে শুধু দেশের নামটা লিখে যেকোনো ওয়েব সাইটে সার্চ দিলেই দেশ সম্পর্কে সব তথ্য চলে আসবে আপনার সামনে। পৃথিবীর বিভিন্ন দেশের রাজনৈতিক অঙ্গনে প্রতিনিয়ত যে পট পরিবর্তন হচ্ছে সেই সম্পর্কে আপডেট তথ্য কেবল মাত্র ইন্টারনেট ব্যবহার করে পাওয়া যায়। আজ সিরিয়ায় কি হচ্ছে কিংবা লেবাননের বৈরুতে কি হচ্ছে তা মুহুর্তের মধ্যেই জানা সম্ভব আপনার কোনো আত্মীয় যদি বিদেশে থাকে তার সাথে কথা বলতে গেলে আজ থেকে ১০ বছর আগেও প্রতি মিনিটে প্রায় ২০ টাকা করে খরচ হতো। কিন্তু এখন প্রায় বিনা পয়সায় আপনি ইন্টারনেট ব্যবহার করে ঘণ্টার পর ঘণ্টা কথা বলতে পারছেন। এভাবে জীবনের নানা ক্ষেত্রে ইন্টারনেট এনে দিয়েছে সুযোগের অবারিত দুয়ার।

তথ্য ও যোগাযোগ প্রযুক্তির ক্রমবর্ধমান উন্নতির ফলে সময় ও দূরত্ব সংকুচিত হয়ে সমস্ত পৃথিবী ক্রমশই ছোট হবে একটি গ্রামের দিকে ধাবিত হচ্ছে। ইন্টারনেট ব্যবহারের দিকটি খেয়াল রেখেই গ্লোবাল ভিলেজের ধারণাটি এসেছে। এটি ধারা গোটা পৃথিবীকে একটি গ্রাম হিসাবে কল্পনা করায় সব দেশেই আছে একটি গ্রামের সকল মা যেমন খুব সহজেই তাদের বিভিন্ন দৈনন্দিন প্রয়োজনে একে অপরের সাথে যোগাযোগ করতে পারে নি এখন পৃথিবীর সকল মানুষ খুব সহজেই ইন্টারনেট ব্যবহারের মাধ্যমে একে অপরের সাথে যোগাযোগ করতে পারছে। ইন্টারনেটের মূল লক্ষ্যই হচ্ছে এমন একটি বিশ্ব গঠন করা যেখানে যেকোন ব্যক্তি বিশ্বের যেকোন স্থান হতে যেকোন সময় উপযুক্ত প্রযুক্তি ব্যবহার করে তথ্য আদান প্রদান করতে পারে। প্রযুক্তির অগতির ফলে গ্লোবাল ভিলেজ কমাটিকে যোগাযোগ প্রযুক্তি তথা ইন্টারনেট বা ওয়ার্ল্ড ওয়াইড ওয়েব এর বর্ণনায় ব্যবহার করা হচ্ছে। ইন্টারনেটের মাধ্যমে আজ নতুন এক পৃথিবী গে উঠেছে যেখানে সারা পৃথিবীর মানুষের মধ্যে যোগাযোগ কার্যক্রম অনেক সহজ হয়েছে। পৃথিবীর এক প্রাপ্ত হতে অপর প্রান্তে যোগাযোগের জন্য বাস্তবে অনেক দূরত্ব থাকলেও ইন্টারনেট সেই দূরত্বকে একেবারেই কমিয়ে দিয়েছে। আজকাল মানুষ অন-লাইনের মাধ্যমে একে অপরের সাথে যোগাযোগ বা তথ্য আদান প্রদানের জন্য অন-লাইন সমাজ ব্যবস্থা বা ইনফরমেশন সোসাইটি গড়ে তুলেছে। এই দ্রুতগতির প্রযুক্তি নির্ভর যোগাযোগ ব্যবস্থার ফলেই মানুষ বিশ্বের যেকোন প্রান্তের খবর মুহূর্তের মধ্যেই জানতে পারছে এবং তাদের মতামত বা প্রতিক্রিয়া ব্যক্ত করতে পারছে। এতে করে মানুষের মধ্যে সামাজিক দায়িত্ববোধও বাড়ছে। 

আলোচনার পরিশেষে বলা যায় যে, ব্যক্তিগত ও জাতীয় জীবনে ইন্টারনেট ব্যবহারের পরিধি বেড়েই চলছে। ইন্টারনেট আজ ঘর থেকে শুরু করে রাষ্ট্রীয়ভাবে বিভিন্ন সমস্যা সমাধানে ব্যবহৃত হচ্ছে। সময় ও অর্থ সাশ্রয় করে ইন্টারনেট আজ বিশ্বসম্প্রদায়কে এনে দিয়েছে একটি একক রাষ্ট্রের নাগরিকের মতো। কিন্তু ইন্টারনেটের এই বহুল ব্যবহার ক্ষেত্রবিশেষ অকল্যাণও বয়ে নিয়ে আসছে। বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের রিজার্ভ চুরি-এর অন্যন্য উদাহরণ। তাই বিশ্ব সম্প্রদায়ের উচিত ইন্টারনেটকে ভালোমাত্রার কাজে ব্যবহার করে অপব্যবহার রোধে এগিয়ে আসা।

যথাবিহীত সম্মান প্রদর্শনপূর্বক আমরা দশচিড়া ও চারিপাড়া গ্রামের অধিবাসীরা জানাচ্ছি যে শিবালয় উপজেলাধীন উপরিউক্ত ঐ দুই গ্রামের মধ্য দিয়ে বয়ে চলছে ইছামতি নদীর একটি প্রধান অংশ। এই দুই গ্রামে বসবাসরত প্রায় ৮ হাজার অধিবাসীকে প্রায় প্রতিদিনই নৌকাযোগে এই ছোট নদীটি পার হতে হয়। স্কুল, কলেজ ও মাদ্রাসাসহ বেশ কয়েকটি শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানে গমনের জন্য প্রতিনিয়তই এই সকল কোমলমতি শিক্ষার্থীদের চরম দুর্ভোগ পোহাতে হয়। এছাড়া নদীতে সর্বদা খেয়া না থাকায় অসুস্থ রোগীদের পারাপারে মারাত্মক অসুবিধার সৃষ্টি হয়। কিন্তু এই দুই গ্রামের মধ্যে একটি সংযোগ ব্রীজ স্থাপিত হলে উভয় গ্রামের মানুষের মধ্যে নেমে আসবে স্বস্তির নিঃশ্বাস। 

অতএব, জনাবের নিকট বিনীত নিবেদন এই যে, আমাদের দুই গ্রামের মধ্যে সংযোগকারী একটি ব্রীজ নির্মাণ করে এলাকাবাসী কৃতজ্ঞতা পাশে থেকে বাধিত করবেন।
